A Technological Moment
I was in a store for a few minutes the other day and through the overhead speakers they were playing this pretty vibey 80’s inspired song. I just happened to notice it cause it sounded slightly out of place, like it shouldn’t have been played so casually in a “background noise” kind of way. Then there was this moment in the song where everything dropped out and it was super synthy and ambient and you could just see the movie that should be playing in the background. I was sold. I pulled out my iPhone, used Shazaam to figure out who the artist was (m83) and whether I could get a better price on iTunes or Amazon. I then opened iTunes on my phone, found the album the song was on (I would have been satisfied just buying the song), found the headphone section of the store, previewed the rest of the album, decided it was worth it and purchased/downloaded the album right to my phone…in fact, listened to the record on the way home.
It was halfway home that I just had this moment of amazement at how smooth that process was. It took no more than 5 minutes and ended up costing me $4.99 to get a 12 song album. It makes me wonder where this technology driven advancement of data sharing/transmission could be headed next…
